Home Up

- To prepare for this assignment, first complete the five exercises on the previous page. There are student samples supplied to help you get your ideas kick started.

Approach: This project may be  produced as a solo or team project. As a solo , you are to choose one assignment from each of category A and category B. The expectations for a duo is greater than that of a solo project, as a result, you would be required to do one assignment from one category and two from the other. Groups of 3 or 4 must choose two assignments from each category. The approach you wish to embark must be approved before you start.

All projects shall be done in good taste.
The variety of tools utilized and evidence of effort.

Note: If you have a good idea or personal request, you may propose an alternative or supplementary assignment that would incorporate similar use of photo shop skills. Also, if you feel that one of your choices may not quit meet the level of expected quantity or quality of workmanship worthy of full marks you are welcomed to compliment any submissions with an additional entry.

Format for Project Submission:

Please
create a group folder  where you will store all your project work. For this project please create two folders in your team directory. One called 'Photoshop Categories A' and 'Photoshop Category B '.  Within these directories, create 2 subfolders, an 'images' folder within each of the divisions to contain all original jpg's, gif's, etc. (images) that you may have used from external sources to create your design; and your 'project' folder, within each you will store your PSD (photoshop) files for each division and a jpg copy of your project when you have completed. This group folder will then be placed in the "tech in" folder of the "techgrp ( 'Q' drive) of the server. Note that once it is submitted you will no longer have access to it.

If you are not sure of the final or alternative use of your images, Design your logo fairly large (at least 10cm X 10cm in size) in photoshop as your images can always be reduced in size without loosing quality, but they cannot be increased as easily.

Category A >>_________________________________________________

Choice # 1- minimum of two business cards (at least one card from each group member and must have a different flow or layout.) Image size = 3 1/2" x 2" and must include a logo and a motto of some sort, as well as factitious contact and company info (Phone/fax #'s, email, website and address.) It must be clear and easy to read. As you can see below; you may have to do some experimenting to find out just what works.

This was the original design. It looked great when it was large. Printed, ...it was hard to read "Mow Town Bros. The othef info was not clear as well Finally, we rid of the outline and enlarged the font

The motto/slogan for your company should be 'catchy' and useful to the business. The slogan can be a part of the logo design.

Choice # 2- “T”Shirt design, front and back. The front would consist of a small crest like logo from app. 2 1/2" to 3 1/2". The back side would be much larger, but must fit on an 8.5" X 11" sheet. Besides a logo you must again come up with a motto. Both should display the same range of colors.

Above is an elementary example, below illustrates much more sophistication.

Obviously many special effects and filters were used to make this a much cooler, pardon the pun, project.

Choice # 3- - Greeting Card. Image size = 5" x 7". It may be a Mother's day card for example where you have some fun like cropping her head and matching it to a different body and so-on. It would consist of an inside pg. as well.

Category B >>________________________________________

Choice # 1- Photo repair/manipulation. Some people mentioned that they had old photos in need of repair, or even wished to insert a family member missing or replaced in a group shot, here is your chance. Note: that if this particular project turns out to be not much more than a cut and paste exercise, you may want to either do an additional image or a sample from one of the previous choices.

Choice # 2- 8 1/2" X 11" Full page Magazine Add or Poster.

Your Magazine add has much the same requirements as a business card, including a logo and a motto of some sort, as well as factitious contact and company info (Phone/fax #'s, email, website and address) It is preferred if you take some of your own pictures. Anything you make us of otherwise, must be credited for copy right reasons and originals must be included in your folder.
The poster project would have added value if it serves for a school or community function or service. Logos and motto or slogan should be incorporated. Like all projects, you must include originals and their sources. Remember you are being weighed and measured on the depth of your use of Photoshop and your overall effectiveness ofy our project.

The link above will lead you to an outline to a poster project that could be used to serve our school.

These are some of the pics used to make up the UFC poster. In this case, besides cropping, texturing and so on, image adjustments had to be made to match skin tones.
