A Career Exploration can range from being a simple one day job shadowing experience to a 3 day mini co-op work placement. It could be a one time exploratory event, or perhaps an initiation or introductory to a continued relationship with an employer. In other words; a chance to plant the seed for a potential career.
The idea behind a career exploration is not just to get out of school, or to go hang with your mom or dad, or someone else. Lack of better words, it should have a more selfish purpose. The idea is to go into the world to discover, explore and build bridges as you truly set out on the road that will hopefully lead to a career.....for you!!.
This activity provides the O2 students one of their first real opportunities to connect with their community and the work world. For these reasons, there should be some thought put into the selection and some preparation prior to the connection.

Career Matching – Gladeo
For the next number of classes, students will use the website Gladeo, which is a career matching based website.
It is important that we make a good fit between you and your career choice. Some students may have a good idea of what they might like to pursue and others no idea at all. In either case, this adventure is valuable. Remember that just because your family have a history in a particular field, does not mean that you will be good at a particular job or enjoy that type of work. To insure a successful experience let us begin by taking a look at ourselves.
The first step in figuring out where you are going in life is to take stock of what brought you to where you are today in the first place. Opportunities no doubt play a big role along our journey, as does our choices in life. However, the direction we are steered by our successes and disappointments along the way are greatly controlled by our inherent and developed skills, interests and attitudes which are reflective of our personality type. Using Shrek's analogy with Donkey, " We, like Onions, have layers". We need get to the core to truly understand the whole. Not often do we take the time to see beyond the surface and miss out as a result. Rarely do we take the time to critically analyze our own self, less the "why" behind "what" chemistry makes up our being. This may all sound convoluted, but let's start examining ourselves from an inside looking out perspective by taking the "self quiz" below and see what kind of results come out of your answers:
